Tomorrow is the big day! We've been jokingly referring to it as "the loviest day of the year." But, in all reality, we don't put too much weight behind Valentines Day. We usually do something but we don't exchange expensive gifts or make a reservation somewhere a month in advance for a set price, pre-fixed menu that neither of us really want.
This year Mike wanted to keep it simple but fun. He wanted to do apps & drinks at one spot and then dessert at another. Unfortunately, most restaurants in the city are taking full advantage of "the loviest day of the year" and requiring not only a reservation but that you order ONLY from their set price, pre-fixed menus. (I get it, I get it) They're in the game to make money too but its just not for us this year.
What we ultimately decided is that we are going to whip up a festive cocktail and delicious eats right here in our own kitchen and then he's made a reservation somewhere fancy for us to enjoy dessert! I AM IN LOVE with this plan! I waited a long time for my own apartment with my own kitchen and any chance I get to use it is basically the best day ever. We also have (in my opinion) one of the best views of the city... especially at night!
I started looking on Pinterest for a festive cocktail idea and stumbled upon some REALLY good ones!
Here are my Top 5!
All recipes are linked in their title! --From left to right:
3. Pink Fizz
5. Champagne and Strawberries with a Gold Rim
Puree 1/4 cup strawberries with 1 teaspoon sugar. Wet the rim of the Champagne glasses and dip into gold sugar or sprinkles. Add a tablespoon of strawberry puree into the bottom of each glass. Top with Champagne.
What else is on the menu?
Shrimp cocktail, bacon wrapped filets, golden mashed, and Ina Garten's Parmesan Roasted Asparagus
I hope you all have a wonderful 'loviest day of the year'
Happy Valentines Day!
P.S. -- Here are a few of my favorite "lovey" songs lately
Brett Eldredge - Mean to me
Ed Sheeran- Thinking out Loud (DUH!) What girl isn't swooning over this song?
I also wanted to link Taylor Swifts 'How you get the girl' but if you remember earlier this year she sort of put a stop to all that! ;-) ((still love her))
